The Story Behind Our Logo

The Hummingbird symbol shows their resilience irrespective of the enormous challenges they face each day.  In addition, this symbol also depicts joy and healing. The symbol also captures how we at Craigsfarm work support those experiencing mental distress – with positivity and an ability to respond quickly.

This indicates that every person experiencing mental distress can regain sound mental health to restart life positively.

Our Achievements

Craigsfarm Community Acheivements

The new Craigsfarm Community Hub was created by a charity called Craigsfarm Community Development Project (CFCDP). Our site has a long history of community activity. Step in and help us write our future.

BEFORE 1962

Where you are stood now is the site of some of the oldest buildings in Livingston.

1962: THE FOURTH NEW TOWN

Livingston was designated as Scotland's 'fourth new town'. People moved from over-crowded tenements in Glasgow and Edinburgh to live in a greener space.

1966: SAVED FROM DEMOLITION

The farm was going to be demolished. Led by youth worker Max Cruickshank and supported by the Ecumenical Parish, local people petitioned to save it and make it somewhere they could socialise.

1969–2009: A PLACE FOR EVERYONE

Craigsfarm opened as a community centre. People came here for friendship and support. The Manager for many years was local community activist John Hoey. Local tradespeople gave their time to transform the buildings.

2010: THREAT OF CLOSURE

As a result of the threat of closure the community got together to save Craigsfarm. Following community consultation new plans were developed and funding sought.

2016: COMMUNITY OWNERSHIP

The community took ownership of the buildings one of the first transfers in West Lothian under the Community Empowerment Act.

2018: NEW HORIZONS

With the generous support of West Lothian Council, the National Lottery Fund (big lottery) and other supporters, we redeveloped and reopened the new Craigsfarm Community Hub.

2021: COMMUNITY CONSULTATION

As the world began to emerge from the pandemic at the end of 2021, Craigsfarm embarked on an extensive consultation. The goal was to determine how to best serve the local community, leading to the development of the Community Wellbeing and Resilience Programme.

2022: THE WELLBEING LAUNCH

The Wellbeing Programme was officially launched. It now operates in partnership with NHS Wellbeing Hubs across West Lothian, providing mental health and resilience support to the local population.

2023: LEADERSHIP IN REGENERATION

Craigsfarm was nominated as the lead organization for providing wellbeing services in Craigshill. This recognition was designated by the West Lothian Council Community Regeneration Team, cementing the Hub's role as a cornerstone of the local community.
